Don't Forget the Public Domain Has Music Too

Music found in the public domain can be used in a variety of different ways.  Whether you are a singer yourself or just a savvy marketer, you are sure to find at least one valuable method that will work for you.  Aside from music there are also classic radio shows and speeches to keep those profits coming in.  If you recall the good ol' television hasn't been around for ever, in fact before TV there was radio, and some of those old time radio shows are classic favorites.  Here are some creative ways to use these types of materials:

1. The first and probably most obvious idea would be to use pieces of music from the public domain within your web sites.  I am sure that at some point in time all of you have been on a website with background music playing, to add a special ambience.  You can also have lists of music available for others to download for free and then make money off of advertising.
    
2. Another use for music and radio shows are to package them up onto a cd and sell them.  You could do a series of one radio show, or maybe a collection of classical music.  eBay would be a great venue for this type of material and you can consider selling them from your website as well.
    
3. There are many programs out there that will allow you to cut and modify music.  With these programs you could simply turn public domain music into ring tones for a cell phone, or even little sound effects or sound bytes for use in web design such as roll overs.
    
4. Famous speeches would be another great way to make some extra money.  You can package up speeches onto a cd and sell them through various online venues.  
    
5. If you are a musician you can of course choose to perform this music live in concerts and bars.  You can also alter the songs and include them as backgrounds to other musical works.
    
6. Create an ebook or cd with a collection of classic sheet music.  Sheet music is very popular and actually sells well on eBay if you find the right material.  Putting together a large collection of mixed sheet music would probably be your best most cost effective option for making money with this method.
