The really big ideas are those that can make you richer than
Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Richer than Martha Stewart. Richer than Brad
Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Or Peter Lynch and Jim Cramer. Or the estate of Elvis
Presley. In fact, richer than all of them put together. Ask Brin and Page, the
founders of Google. Or the billionaires Omidyar and Skoll (eBay). Or the guy who
can give every single one of the two billion men, women and children on this
earth a dollar each and still have several billion left: Jeff Bezos (amazon.com)
I don't have any of those big ideas to give away.
Even if I did, let's face it: hitting the big time is not going to happen for
most of us. And I can't tell you how to make billions because I haven't made
billions myself. But could you make do with a few million, right? It's easier
than it sounds. No, really, it is.
Here's my collection, in reverse order, of the top places to start if you really
want to make money. No BS sites. No sites looking to sell you a get-rich-quick
scheme. Just what I think are the best places to start. Sites I'd find useful.
Notice: No lottery sites. Clue: It takes a little work to get rich my way.
Counting down...
10 - The Motley Fool: The legendary Fool
website is more of an investment website than a make-money-from-home site, you
say? Well, maybe it has a
strong stock market focus, but bear in mind that web businesses are only one
side of the online money coin. The other side is investments / trading /
speculating and you have access to online resources for analyzing and trading of
stocks / currencies / commodities that Warren Buffet never had when he started.
Even if trading isn't for you there no place like The Fool to arm you for
raising finance - whether it's from your house or from a Venture Capitalist.
Half the story with making money is knowing how to manage it. The Fool won't
disappoint here either. With such a wide area of usefulness The Fool had to make
an appearance here. The reason it's right at the bottom of this top 10 list is
simply that it's so, so vast: great information but time-consuming.
9. Small Business
Advisor: Knowing about money and how it works is good. Knowing a bit about
business doesn't hurt. The SBA, an independent agency of the US government,
claims to help Americans start, build and grow businesses. The principles it
espouses and the resources it provides should prove useful to business wannabes
anywhere in the world. From tools, services and forms to the podcasts, articles
and links - there's lots to take in and a lot to exploit. There's a UK
equivalent at BusinessLink.
There's no reason why you can't use them both.
8 - Top Secret
Blogger: This site is a fairly new site and it may sometimes be a bit slow,
but it makes this list for its careful collection of money making ideas and
opportunities. There's a very brief paragraph on each suggestion/link. Sadly,
many of those comprise copy taken straight from the destination page. In any
event, it's worth spending some time on. Some of those "opportunity" links are
just as readable as some of the other "money making" articles the author's
researched and linked to. There are several other bloggers worth researching.
John Chow, Darren Rouse and Jeremy Schoemoney, among others, have numerous
articles devoted to making money (primarily) from blogs. Many of their tips
could be ported to other businesses.
